Basic Nitrox Diver

The Nitrox course - extend your bottom time.

Overview

Nitrox The Nitrox Diver course, also known as Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx) diving, is a popular specialty course that teaches divers how to safely plan and execute dives using breathing gas mixtures with a higher oxygen content than normal air. Nitrox typically refers to any mixture of nitrogen and oxygen where the oxygen content exceeds that of standard air (which is approximately 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen).
The primary benefit of diving with Nitrox is extended no-decompression limits, which can allow for longer bottom times compared to diving with standard air. This is because higher oxygen concentrations result in reduced nitrogen absorption in the body during the dive, potentially decreasing the risk of decompression sickness.

Nitrox Here's an overview of what the Nitrox Diver course usually covers:
Gas physiology:Understanding how different gas mixtures affect the body, including the principles of partial pressure and oxygen toxicity.
Benefits and risks:Exploring the advantages and considerations of diving with Nitrox, including its impact on dive planning, gas consumption, and safety.
Equipment considerations:Learning about specialized equipment used in Nitrox diving, such as dedicated Nitrox-compatible cylinders, oxygen-clean gear, and dive computers capable of handling Nitrox calculations.
Dive planning:Techniques for calculating maximum operating depths (MOD), best mixtures for specific dive profiles, and analyzing gas blends using an oxygen analyzer.
Safety procedures:Understanding the importance of proper gas analysis, labeling of cylinders, and managing oxygen exposure limits (i.e., oxygen exposure limits and oxygen toxicity).
Practical application:Conducting dives using Nitrox under the supervision of a certified instructor, focusing on proper gas management, buoyancy control, and emergency procedures.
Upon successful completion, divers receive certification allowing them to dive with Nitrox within the limits of their training. It's a valuable certification for recreational divers looking to extend their bottom times or for those planning multiple dives in a day.
However, it's important to note that Nitrox does come with its own set of considerations and safety protocols, so proper training is essential before diving with this gas mixture.
